IT will only be a couple of years until Thor star Chris Hemsworth and wife Elsa Pataky will be watching their 10-year-old daughter India compete in the showjumping at the Magic Millions.
“Chris loves watching India and is really proud of her,” said Elsa, who is the Magic Millions Showjumping global ambassador.
“But I get more nervous when she competes than when I am jumping myself.”
Prize money for the showjumping increased from $100,000 to $1.45m to make it Australia’s richest event and attracted almost 100 of the nation’s top showjumpers including four Olympians.
Magic Millions co-host Katie Page said the 5000-strong crowd at the Gold Coast was the biggest for a showjumping event in Australia and would be reconfigured to be even bigger next year.
“We are showcasing showjumping and giving these equestrians the chance to compete in front of a big crowd,” she said.
It was followed by a celebrity polo match that put Queensland State of Origin coach Billy Slater on the same team as the King’s niece Zara Tindall and professional player Ruki Baillieu.
They were pitched against Argentinian polo star Nacho Figueras, his model wife Delfina Blaquier and Australian polo great Rob Archibald.
The competitive edge between the two teams had been building for weeks.
“I realised I hadn’t been on a horse for a while and needed to practice,” said Slater said.
He took to the show ring at sports presenter Hamish McLachlan’s farm.
