The man accused of killing two people during an alleged stabbing in Sydney’s west has told police he called his mum after he put down a knife.
Eric George Delaney, 34, was charged with two counts of murder following the deaths of a man and woman at a Cartwright unit block about 4pm on Tuesday.
An axe and knife were allegedly used during the fight, leaving a 40-year-old man and 34-year-old woman dead after they came to Delaney’s home to settle a dispute.

The man died at the scene. The woman was taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition and died a short while later.
Yesterday, Delaney was seen wearing a forensic jumpsuit and gloves walking through the Huntley Place crime scene with police.
He relived the struggle for police, imitating jabs, axe swings, blows to the head and people falling down stairs.
“I had a knife in my hand and I sat it down,” he could be heard saying to detectives.
“I tried to call my mum and she didn’t pick up the phone so I called my mate Robert.”
He claimed he was attacked by the couple.
Shaken after seeing the bodies of the victims, neighbour Robert Bangle said they did not live there.
“Those other people there don’t belong to the place,” he said. “I had seen her come and go before but had never seen him.”
Neighbours said police were often called to the Housing Department-owned unit complex.
“There is always screaming, always problems. It’s almost every day you see the police around here.”
Horrified neighbours said they heard a woman screaming before police and ambulances swarmed to the gruesome scene about 4pm.
“She was singing out ‘help, help’ … and then I heard all this banging,” neighbour Richard Johnson said.
“It’s very scary, especially when there are a lot of old people living here. It lasted for a while, about 20 minutes. When she was screaming out it was very scary.”
Delaney was refused bail to appear before Liverpool Local Court today. Police said the two victims had not been formally identified.
