The crowd were left shell-shocked after the rogue fireworks rained down on families and children just after 9pm on Sunday night.
Crowds watching the Christmas carols event were captured on video screaming and running as fireworks fell down on them.
One attendee was heard in a video saying “It’s in the playground” before screaming as fireworks descended on the oval.
Another attendee told The Daily Telegraph that police and ambulance were called to scenes of “carnage” with children running and screaming.
They said some of the attendees had been burnt after a firework flew into the crowd.
NSW Police confirmed emergency services were called to the oval around 9.30pm, where police were told a firework had shot into a crowd of people during the event.
An 11-year-old boy was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment of a chest injury and an eight-year-old girl was taken to Northern Beaches Hospital for treatment of a wrist injury, both non-life threatening.
Police have been told a 12-year-old boy was taken to hospital by his parents for treatment to minor burns and has since been released.
Six other people were treated on scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and the NSW Rural Fire Service for minor injuries.
A crime scene has been established and SafeWork NSW are investigating the incident.
