ALLEGED camouflage rapist Troy Johnson has twice been violently bashed in jail by inmates and left with a broken eye socket.
Johnson, 31, is being held in custody after being refused bail on 13 sex charges.
He is accused of raping a 12-year-old schoolgirl after ambushing her while wearing a military-style ghillie suit, and grooming an 11-year-old girl for sex.
He is recovering at Sydney’s Concord Hospital after being targeted by other inmates on two separate occasions.
His father Steve told The Daily Telegraph: “Troy’s been smashed to pieces, not once, but several times by inmates.
“He’s got a cracked eye socket after inmates went for him.
“He’s not been found guilty — what’s happened has destroyed our entire family, it’s ripped us apart. I will never abandon my boy ... what’s a father supposed to do?
“It’s all circumstantial.
“He’s got a camouflage suit because he hunts wild pigs and deer — that doesn’t make him a rapist.”
Johnson, a licensed shooter, was arrested near his home in Narara last month as part of a three-month operation.
In documents tendered to court, police allege Johnson “committed a well-planned attack on a vulnerable person” and argue that he is likely is to receive a lengthy jail sentence due to “overwhelming evidence” against him.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal police will allege the father-of-three stored aerial images of scrubland on his phone, which he used to source overgrown spots where he would wait for young victims, according to the documents.
The documents allege Johnson leapt out of bushland and grabbed the 12-year-old as she walked to school along a pathway between Reeves and Carrington Sts, Narara, about 7.45am on May 15.
Police claim he dragged her kicking into bushland, stripped her naked, gagged her mouth with tape and tied her to a tree before raping her.
He allegedly made her perform oral sex, after showing her a video on his phone of how to do it, while taking “trophy” photographs.
Johnson was also charged with three alleged assaults on a second girl, 11, including grooming with the purpose of sexual activity, between April 2016 and October 2017.
Police documents tendered to court allege he exposed himself to her “several” times in a swimming pool and once in a car in which the girl was a passenger.
The girl’s mother has told The Daily Telegraph the girl is “in counselling”.
“She’s been very brave helping the police with their inquiries, we’re taking things slowly,” the mother said.
Johnson’s wife Katrina has left the marital home in Woongarrah and taken the couple’s children to stay with relatives in Sydney, amid hostility towards the family.
The case is set for mention at Gosford Local Court on October 27.
