PREGNANT kaftan queen Camilla Franks wants women to stop living in “fear” of never having children and focus on their careers rather than their ovaries.
Franks, 41-year-old founder and director of multimillion-dollar fashion label Camilla, said working women are being scared into believing they can’t conceive naturally in their late- 30s and early-40s, forcing them to make life choices based on “absolute BS”.
However, she reckons her unexpected pregnancy is proof women really can have it all, career and family.
In her first interview since revealing late last month she is expecting her first child with Welsh singer fiance JP Jones, she said: “A couple of years ago I went through so many different tests and got told I needed to do IVF and spent thousands of dollars all from fear of what I was being told.
“I went to all these meetings and appointments all driven from complete fear that I couldn't have a child. I think we need to take the fear out of it.”
Franks, whose baby is due in January, said doctors told her she may have difficulty conceiving a child naturally after 40.
“It was the wrong advice and it wasn’t fair and it wasn’t true and I was told I had to potentially go down the path of IVF and it was absolute BS,” she said.
“So I think, take a lot of it with a grain of salt.”
However, statistically 20 per cent of women in their mid-20s will fall pregnant within the first month of trying. That compares to less than 1 per cent of those in their mid-40s.
Franks, who is the fittest she has ever been, said she is surrounded by women who are having or have had children while aged over 40.
Her grandmother was 50 when she gave birth to Franks’ mother.
“This generation are working women, we don’t just leave school, get married, have children,” Franks said.

“I wouldn’t be me if I had just jumped into the world of motherhood. I’m so blessed that I’ve been able to have that chapter of running a business as well. I’d encourage all women to continue enjoying their careers.”
Franks was due to marry Jones in India in November but postponed the wedding after the surprise pregnancy.
“It’s no big deal,” Franks said. “A party can wait a while. We’ll have a party of three.”
