When police noticed a rundown vehicle with a busted windscreen they followed it into the Byron Bay Woolworths carpark.

On speaking with the driver, Queenslander Kieran Kordic, they asked if he was aware of the registration status of the white Nissan.

According to police facts, he replied it’s “on the back of the car”.

Kordic, 41, of Southport, pleaded guilty at Mullumbimby Local Courthouse on Wednesday, November 9, to driving with an expired licence, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving an uninsured vehicle.

When police informed Kordic the vehicle was unregistered, he replied “Oh ... it’s too far to walk to shops”, according to court documents.

The car’s Queensland registration had expired in September.

Magistrate Karen Stafford noted Kordic was on a community corrections order at the time of the offence.

The matter has been adjourned to December 7.
