A P-plater crashed into a concrete road divider on the Pacific Motorway after one too many drinks and an argument with a friend.
Jordan Blake Linning pleaded guilty at Mullumbimby Local Court on Wednesday to driving with a high-range blood-alcohol reading.
The 21-year-old has been living with his mother in Brisbane since the accident happened about 1.30am on August 28 on the Pacific Motorway near Brunswick Heads.
Linning had five Great Northern beers at his friend’s house before they had a heated argument, police state in court documents.
The verbal fight led to Linning getting behind the wheel to leave the premises while intoxicated, “frustrated” and “angry”, police facts state.
Linning stopped at the BP service station on Ewingsdale Rd and Bay Shore Dr at Byron Bay when a witness saw he was well-affected by alcohol before getting back on the road.
Police state Linning was travelling over the 110km/h speed limit along the Pacific Motorway when he was trying to overtake a B-double truck.
“Whilst negotiating a left road bend he veered into the breakdown lane to avoid colliding with the truck … He broke heavily causing the car to skid. He took further evasive action steering right,” officers state.
“He skidded across both lanes and crashed into the concrete centre road dividing barrier.”
Fortunately, Linning was not injured and no other vehicles were involved.
Police arrived to find “debris strewn over the road” and noticed Linning’s state.
“His eyes were glazed, his speech was slurred, he was unsteady on his feet and smelt of alcohol,” police facts said.
Linning was arrested and taken to Brunswick Heads Police Station and took a blood-alcohol test resulting in a reading of 0.150 - three times more than the legal driving limit.
Magistrate Kathy Crittenden adjourned the case for sentence on December 6.
