Byron Bay resident Sarah Saffron could barely contain her disgust as she picked up broken glass and bottles left in the dunes after a beach party.
The 39-year-old said she had walked past a group of about 30 people who had a fire and were drinking in the dunes of Belongil Beach on Friday night.
Bottles, plastic bags and broken wine glasses littered the sand on Saturday morning.
“It‘s disgusting,” Miss Saffron said as she collected the debris.
“This is my home, it’s our home.”
She said the stretch was popular with families.
“This is a dog beach, little kids come here.”
Police were called to the scene, about 300m from the Kendall St level crossing, at around midnight after receiving reports of loud music.
A police spokesman said about 20 to 25 people dispersed into bushland when they arrived.
He said police stopped a number of people, including a 21-year-old woman who allegedly resisted officers and attempted to flee.
Police allege the woman bit an officer on the hand and while being escorted to the station entangled her legs around those of a female senior constable, causing both to fall to the ground.
At the station, officers allegedly found methamphetamine in her possession.
The woman was charged with assaulting an officer in execution of duty, resisting an officer in execution of duty and possessing a prohibited drug.
She was granted bail to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on October 25.
She was also issued a $3000 fine for not complying with a Covid-19 direction.
The spokesman said three further people from the beach party were also issued $3000 fines for breaching Covid directions.
