After about three decades of ownership by the Mooney family, the Great Northern Hotel and an adjacent accommodation house have sold in one massive Byron Bay real estate deal.
While no sale price for the deal has been formally disclosed, there have been reports it may have been in the realm of $80 million.
JLL Hotels and Hospitality Group marketed the pub and the 51-room Lateen Lane Hotel through an invitation-only sale.
The buyers were a pair of founders of ASX-listed companies: Melbourne-based Scott Didier of the Johns Lyng Group and online lender MoneyMe founder Scott Emery.
Mr Didier has said in a statement the duo were “delighted” to take on the venue, which he described as a “very special pub in such a special place”.
Whatever the new owners will envision for the landmark venue, one thing is certain: it has been home to countless good times for locals and visitors alike, including strong live music offerings.
To mark the significant change for this beloved pub, we’ve taken a trip down memory lane to remember some of the good times The Northern, aka the Middle Pub, has hosted.
