AFTER two years, the Brunswick Valley Liquor Accord formalised its agreement at its recent AGM, voting in Andrew Spice, from the Ocean Shores Country Club as its new president,
The meeting implemented a constitution, and agreed on terms and conditions in line with State licensing laws and recommendations from the Office of Liquor Gaming and Racing.
Accord member Kim Dowling, from the Ocean Shores Tavern, said the issues facing venues in the north of the shire were different from those in Byron Bay.
"None of us are really late-night trading venues, so we have separate needs," she said.
"But we still want to ensure that our patrons have a good time in a safe venue."
With several large festivals now taking place in the north of the shire, the BVLA will be meeting with festival stakeholders later this year.
"We will be discussing issues around transport and camping," said Ms Dowling.
The BVLA terms include a patron code of conduct, a no shots or doubles policy, refusingA entry to bikers displaying anything identifying them as a gang, and use of fail-to-quit resources.
Sergeant Mark Gorton was in attendance and commended the Accord on a great turnout, reinforcing the Brunswick Valley's commitment to responsible service of alcohol and working closely with police.
