Django John Sullivan granted conditional bail after alleged Byron Bay attack
A Possum Creek man accused of assaulting an older man in Byron Bay while in the company of up to five other men has been granted strict bail.
A Byron teen accused of assaulting a young man in the popular tourist town earlier this year must abide by strict conditional bail until his next court appearance.
Django John Sullivan, 18, faced Magistrate Kathy Crittenden in Byron Bay Local Court on Monday.
He is charged with reckless grievous bodily harm – in company after he allegedly assaulted an older man in the company of up to five other men.
Sullivan has not yet entered any pleas.
Emergency services were called to a car park near the intersection of Jonson St and Lawson St, Byron Bay about 3.30am on June 21 following reports a man had allegedly been assaulted by a group of up to six males.
Upon arrival, officers from Tweed/Byron located a 25-year-old man suffering head injuries.
He was treated by NSW paramedics at the scene then rushed to Lismore Base Hospital with significant facial and head injuries.
Police confirmed the man has since been released from hospital yet say he lives with ongoing injuries sustained during the alleged assault.
Tweed/Byron detectives initiated an investigation into the alleged assault and after further inquiries and public appeal Sullivan was arrested at Byron Bay police station at 7am on October 30.
Police then charged the Possum Creek man with reckless grievous bodily harm – in company.
Ms Crittenden placed Sullivan on strict conditional bail where he must abide by a curfew, and must be of good behaviour.
Sullivan must not contact other prosecution witnesses nor not commit further offences.
He must reappear in Byron Bay Local Court on February 2.
