AFL fans heading to Saturday’s Swans v Giants game will be forced onto buses, with trains cancelled on the Olympic Park line.
Weekend trackwork will see buses replace trains all weekend between Lidcombe and Olympic Park.
A high-frequency bus shuttle will run every three minutes while the AFL game is on.
Buses will also replace trains between Berowra and Hornsby on the T1 North Shore Line, and between Hornsby and Strathfield on the T9 Northern Line.
“Sydney is really coming back to life with so many events occurring every weekend, we do appreciate your patience during this period,” executive director of rail operations Jas Tumber said.
“There will be queues, there will be a lot of people around with so many events occurring, so please be patient with us and our staff on the ground, allow extra travel time and try and get there as early as possible.”
With the FIFA Women’s World Cup bringing fans out and about in droves, it has been “challenging” for Transport for NSW to fit in its rail repair plan trackwork without disrupting major events
The Olympic Park Line closure also clashed with the Sydney Disability Expo, however all replacement buses will be wheelchair accessible.
Around 950 workers will be working across 185km of track closures, with work including the removal of more than 100 high-priority defects.
This weekend is just the latest instalment in the NSW Government’ Rail Repair Plan to fix Sydney’s train network.
While the government says the work needs to be done, it has meant major headaches for weekend commuters, with more than 600,000 customers expected to be impacted over the 12-month works period.
