Bruce Lehrmann undone by his love for ‘80s rock ballads

Bruce Lehrmann’s love of ’80s rock ballads has caught up with him. The ex-political staffer is looking for yet another place to live after neighbours became fed up with his karaoke carry-on.

Bruce Lehrmann’s love of ’80s rock ballads has finally caught up with him.

The former political staffer was on Friday left looking for yet another place to live after neighbours became fed up with his karaoke carry-on.

Mr Lehrmann’s love of Fleetwood Mac and Whitney Houston – among other artists – has enraged his North Sydney neighbours, who labelled his wild parties and constant sing-a-longs as “vile”.

It’s not the first time his musical tastes have caught up with him. According to people who know his circle of friends, they, too, were over his song choices, and it was common for his music to clear out a late-night party. Also said to be on his playlist are tunes by Cat Stevens and Daryl Braithwaite.

Lehrmann’s antics saw him pack up and leave the North Sydney home he has been staying in – with flatmate and friend Paul Farrell – following the end of his Channel 7-paid luxury rental last month.

The network covered his rental costs at a $2000-a-week Balgowlah house for one year in exchange for his “bombshell” interview on the Spotlight program.

It’s understood he left Mr Farrell’s rental home under the cover of darkness, before close friend Rob Porter showed up at the property to move the rest of Mr Lehrmann’s belongings on Friday, telling reporters he was a removalist.

Mr Farrell told The Saturday Telegraph that Mr Lehrmann, who is awaiting the outcome of his multimillion-dollar defamation case, had moved out.

“He has somewhere else organised but not sure where,” Mr Farrell said.

Mr Farrell, who let Mr Lehrmann stay in a spare room, told reporters the decision to let his mate stay “basically ruined his life” after he arrived home to find his neighbours complaining over karaoke nights, a constant contingent of photographers, and barefoot women clutching bottles of whisky.

Neighbours were pleased to hear Mr Lehrmann had left, saying they were relieved to hear the wild parties were, hopefully, now over.

“They’ve been vile. I’m happy he’s going,” one neighbour said about the behaviour.

“If all the parties stop, then hallelujah.”

It’s not the first time Mr Lehrmann’s loud music and partying has angered neighbours, who reportedly slipped notes about their frustrations under his door at a prior rental in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

On Monday, Mr Lehrmann will learn the fate of his defamation case in the Federal Court, after he sued Channel 10 and Lisa Wilkinson following her interview on The Project with Brittany Higgins where the former Liberal staffer alleged she was raped in 2019 at Parliament House.

Mr Lehrmann was not named by The Project but argues he was identified among MPs, staffers and journalists at Parliament House. He has consistently denied the allegations.

After the decision on Monday, Mr Lehrmann will face a committal hearing in Queensland to decide whether he will face trial on rape charges.

He has been charged with raping a woman twice at Toowoomba in October 2021 and has denied the allegations.
