Brittany Higgins has offered her support to a Queensland woman who has accused former Liberal staffer Bruce Lehrmann of sexually assaulting her two years ago.
Ms Higgins said her “heart broke” for the young woman who came forward after seeing Lehrmann as the defendant in Ms Higgins‘ now aborted rape case.
Police allege Lehrmann had unprotected sex with her without her consent “When I first found out about the alleged sexual assault my heart broke for you,” Ms Higgins wrote on Instagram.
“I note the fact you‘ve decide (sic) to come forward despite seeing the horrific championing of this individual in the media all year. “
Mr Lehrmann allegedly had consensual sex with the Queensland woman on the night the pair met but allegedly failed to wear a condom without her consent when they has sex twice on the following morning— a charge that is considered sexual assault in Queensland.
The former staffer became known as the high profile man who was at the centre of the new rape charges when a suppression order was lifted by the courts.
Mr Lehrmann maintained his innocence in his trial with Ms Higgins and the case was aborted with all charges dropped.
