A teenager allegedly murdered while camping with mates was a “bright, kind-hearted boy” with a life full of promise, his distraught family said.
Isaac, age 15, died after he was allegedly stabbed during an altercation with chef Jacob Greig, 32, in a remote bush car park at Wilton on Friday night.
Police allege Greig, who was armed with a knife, set upon Isaac after the teen mistakenly grabbed at his car door in an attempt to get a lift home.
Tragically, Isaac’s body was not discovered until the following morning when his mates — who thought he’d left the campsite and gone home — stumbled upon him in grass on the side of Wilton Park Rd.
Isaac’s father Paul gave permission for The Daily Telegraph to publish his son’s first name and picture, saying he wanted him remembered as an adored son, brother and mate, whose life was taken far too soon.
Family friend Donna Young said Isaac’s parents and siblings were facing unimaginable pain trying to make sense of his shocking death.
“It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the devastating loss of Isaac, a bright, kind-hearted 15-year-old boy whose life was taken far too soon,” Ms Young wrote.
“Isaac was a beloved son, brother, and friend. His life, full of promise and potential, was tragically cut short due to an (alleged) act of senseless violence.”
The popular year 10 student at Picton High School set off into the bush, in the Wollondilly Shire, on Friday afternoon with a group of mates for an overnight camping stay.
Sometime around 10pm, Isaac walked to the roadway with two mates who had arranged to be picked up by their parents. When he didn’t return to the campsite, the group assumed he had left too, since he’d been complaining of being hungry and cold.
But in a harrowing statement of facts tendered to court, police allege that while Isaac was at the road after his mates left, he got into an altercation with a stranger, Greig, who was in the passenger seat of a car that the teen mistakenly tried to get into.
Police allege that CCTV cameras captured Greig jumping from the car while armed with a knife and confronting Isaac.
“The accused has started walking towards the victim and yelled “Oi...you, you f**king dog,” the police statement said.
“The accused has then started chasing the victim while brandishing the knife and screaming “Where are your f**king mates, f**k you I’ll f**king kill you, you f**king dog”.
When the feud escalated, police allege Greig slashed Isaac on the right arm causing it to bleed profusely. He then left the scene without rendering assistance to Isaac, police said.
At about 7.30am on the Saturday morning, Isaac’s friends made their way from their bush campsite to the road to be collected, when they discovered his body covered in blood.
Ms Young, who has set up a Go Fund Me fundraiser to help Isaac’s parents with funeral costs, said some of the money will also go towards supporting the mates who found Isaac’s body.
“As they navigate this heartbreaking time, they need our support...during this heart-wrenching chapter of their lives,” Ms Young said.
