Mother of toddler left at shopping mall located in carpark

The mother of a toddler who was left inside a shopping centre food court in Sydney’s southwest has been found and taken to hospital for a mental health assessment.

The mother of a toddler who was left inside a shopping centre food court in Sydney’s southwest has been found.

NSW Police said the boy’s father had been called and was on his way to collect him.

About 10am, a woman found the boy trying to get into a lift on his own inside the Campbelltown Mall on Hurley Street.

The blonde-haired boy had no shoes on and was wearing navy track pants with a red stripe, a green long sleeve T-shirt and a navy jacket.

Police were called and when they reviewed CCTV footage from inside the centre, it showed a woman inside the food court with the boy.

The footage showed the woman then leaving without him.

Less than an hour after CCTV images of the woman were publicly released, police confirmed they had found the boy’s mother.

It is understood the mother was found in a car park in Campbelltown just before 5pm and has been taken to hospital for a mental health assessment.

Meanwhile the boy, aged between 18 months and two years old, was taken to a local police station, where officers were looking after him.

It is understood the boy could talk with police but couldn’t recall his name when asked.
