The Real Housewives of Sydney cast member Victoria Rees has revealed on Instagram that her friend — Edyta Kalbarczyk — was the driver behind the car that rolled off the edge in Bondi.
“When your friend visits and drives over the edge,” she captioned the image and posted to her 32k followers.
The luxury Range Rover had to be winched several metres up to the road after it slammed through a fence onto a popular walkway along Bondi Beach.
Morning joggers were left gobsmacked after the vehicle plummeted off the edge of road about 10.45am.
Two drivers had just been involved in a car accident on Notts Ave and were exchanging details when the luxury SUV rolled forward.
The vehicle slid through a guard fence and flipped onto its roof on the ground below, landing outside a public toilet on the popular strip. Stairs metres from the walkway lead down to the beach.
A tow truck winched the car off the walkway about 12.30pm.
No one was in the vehicle at the time of the incident and no pedestrians were injured.
Notts Ave was closed while the vehicle was recovered.
A female resident who lives in the apartment complex where the crash-landing occurred, who did not wish to be named, said she was furious with the driver.
“She could have bloody killed someone,” she said.
“She reversed out of her driveway and didn’t put the hand brake on and the car just rolled.
“We didn’t hear anything but we heard a loud bang.”
Another onlooker Abby Bryan said she’d never seen an incident as bad as this before.
“The car just rolled over and flipped on its back,” she said.
“It’s really lucky she wasn’t inside at the time.
“We’ve been here watching them try and take it away for over an hour. It’s taking a long time.”
Other residents of the apartment complex watched on from their balconies and cheered when the Range Rover was eventually brought back onto the road.
Crowds of more than 50 people gathered around on either side of the police tape to watch the removal of the car, which took several hours.
Craig Andrews, 47, a Bondi resident, said he’s just happy nobody was injured.
“It’s a miracle nobody was hurt,” he said.
“This is such a busy area, I’m just shocked.”
The accident follows carnage on the M1 Motorway today following a truck fire and the destruction of 16 tonnes of milk and juice.
The single-trailer truck was travelling northbound on the M1 when the rear burst into flames around 2.30am.
The driver managed to escape unscathed but the incident destroyed the truck’s precious cargo.
The fire has sent traffic into chaos, forcing the closure of two of three lanes northbound, with the third lane closed intermittently.
Bumper-to-bumper traffic has been gridlocking the highway for more than nine hours, with the road queued back 10km to Cowan.
At 11.30am, drivers were facing delays of more than 30 minutes.
