Wild weather has transformed one of Sydney’s most famous coastlines, with the golden sands of Bondi Beach uplifted and scattered by the chaotic winds overnight.
Sydneysiders looking to seize their Saturday morning were instead met with eerie-sight, as Bondi looked more like a dystopian desert landscape rather than the world renowned beach-front it has been known for for decades.
Almost as if the beach had extended inland overnight, mountains of sand built up against the existing structures left hardly any differentiation between the beach and surrounding walkways.
The aftermath of the storms have left nearby carparks completely covered by inches of sand, as well as areas surrounding the Bondi Pavillion.
Bins lining the walls of the beach have been left unrecognizable after being almost entirely covered in the uprooted sands, with close to no clear definition between the beach and walkway.
Bondi residents battled through the conditions to complete their morning exercise, as the pathways began to clear up with an increase in foot traffic.
A Waverly Council Spokesperson said the council is now working on removing sand impacting areas around the Bondi Promenade and Queen Elizabeth Dr.
“Council Teams are hoping to re-open the car park today with the total clean up expected to be a few days,” they said.
“The beach itself is currently open but there is a dangerous surf warning in place.”
