Brazen theft of rare $400,000 boat

Prominent accountant Anthony Bell is the owner of a rare boat worth hundreds of thousands of dollars that has been stolen from one of Sydney’s most exclusive marinas.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal Bell is the owner of the $400,000 Rigid-Hull Inflatable Boat that was taken from the Rose Bay Marina two weeks ago and was last seen being towed through New South Head Road.

Police say two men untied the Ribco Seafarer 46 and towed it to a nearby boat ramp before loading it onto a trailer.

The trailer was then pulled by a white Volkswagen Amarok and was last spotted by CCTV on Sunday 9 May.

The vessel is 35-feet long with a black hull and white interiors and registration of AIS241N.

Bell bought the boat six years ago to use as a work vessel alongside his luxury superyacht, Ghost II, which is rumoured to have cost around $15 million.

Bell is a top Sydney accountant, known for his high profile clients as well as his celebrity lifestyle. He regularly mixes with the top end of town and is close mates with the likes of Michael Clarke, Anthony Minichiello and Karl Stefanovic.

When contacted, Bell said he had been in touch with police, who have notified him that they are hopeful of finding the vessel.

A source close to the investigation said the boat “might have been taken by a couple of joy riders”.

One of Australia’s leading marine sales websites, Standen Marine described the type of boat as a “sleek vessel that moves with confidence, agility and speed.”

“With solid fibreglass composite hull, durable Hypalon tubes, hand-laid teak decking, spacious seating area and huge rear sun lounges, the Seafarer 36 offers a high-performance tender and luxury day boat with an Ultra Deep Vee hull designed by Lorne Campbell,” it said.

Police believe there are only a few boats of its kind in Australia.

Marine Area Command is investigating the theft and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Ghost II meanwhile was added to Bell’s fleet in 2016. It boasts an outdoor spa, a dining room that seats 50 people and sleeps 12 passengers.
