An infestation of bluebottle jellyfish washed up at an eastern Suburbs beach on Wednesday morning as Sydneysiders rushed for a dip before the Harbour City is set to be hit with its hottest day since March this year.
Bronte Beach was busy on Thursday morning, but many beachgoers were seen turning away from the surf, choosing the rockpool instead after thousands of bluebottles dominated the waterfront.
While the bluebottles may have stopped a few people from getting their ideal beach swim on Thursday, beaches are expected to be crowded this weekend, with a top of 31 degrees on Sunday.
Meteorologist and Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) Edward Medlock has told Sydneysiders they should be expecting a warm weekend and assures the heat is here to stay.
“Thirty-one degrees is the hottest we have seen Sydney since the middle of March this year,” Mr Medlock said.
“The heat is ramping up this weekend, and it’s looking to stay that way.”
Both Friday and Saturday have small chances of showers, before leading into Sunday, which will mark Sydney’s warmest day in seven months.
And while not as hot, Mr Medlock said Sydney residents will get a chance to enjoy a nice breeze throughout Friday and Saturday.
