Superyacht industry takes off in Australia during the pandemic

First it was her 2020 scented candle range, and now Roxy Jacenko has been attacked by consumers alleging her new collection of handbag and phone charms is a direct rip-off from a rival.

After posting the plastic beads to her Instagram account two weeks ago, Jacenko was accused of pinching the idea from retail store String Ting.

Fans of String Ting’s range posted to Jacenko’s Instagram: “String Ting did it first,” posted one. “Roxy you should know better,” posted another.

“You forgot to tag String Ting”, said a third.

Jacenko was shy on the subject yesterday and also didn’t respond to claims she is selling the product for $29 plus shipping after paying just $1.57 a unit.

Packer puts superyacht up for sale for $282m

James Packer’s superyacht IJE was making its way to the Italian port of Sanremo from Bodrum in Turkey when news dropped midweek that the billionaire has listed his 108m Benetti pleasure craft for sale with an international boating brokerage firm.

Having only taken possession of the boat in 2019, Packer watchers were quick to speculate Crown’s major shareholder is offloading the boat to offset recent losses to Crown’s share price. Not quite.

Packer commissioned the boat in 2014 when he was investing megabucks in a global casino dream.

This was just months after the NSW government handed him a Sydney casino licence expected to lure Chinese high rollers here.

Back then a luxury superyacht, along with a fleet of jets Packer acquired that same year, might have had a significant role to play in a high stakes casino empire that was to stretch from Macau to the US to Australia and beyond.

Now with that dream in tatters, IJE is on the market for $282 million – almost $100 million more than Packer paid for it.

It’s apparently a seller’s market in superyachts, so it seems that he’s picked his moment.

The boat will be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show from next week.

COMEDY COUPLE’S SHIFT BREAKS CITY HEARTS

Sydney’s Bondi-based Jewish community is trying not to take the departure of Sacha Baron Cohen and wife Isla Fisher too much to heart.

The Hollywood darlings pulled up stumps last month and relocated to Fisher’s hometown, a town no paparazzi photographer has ever darkened, Perth.

In May this column reported the power couple had caused a sensation at Bondi’s Central Synagogue after being welcomed into the fold last year becoming the synagogue’s most famous worshippers.

The couple were introduced to Central by the synagogue’s former vice president, Michael Rothner.

Rothner is the Ashe Morgan investment banker who courted controversy in 2017 after the Aston Martin-driving playboy’s marriage to wife Lisa ended and he landed in court after a builder sued the estranged coupled for $550,000 over unpaid bills.

Rothner has a weakness for fast cars and celebrities, and must have been crushed when Cohen, Fisher and their three children pulled the pin on Sydney and moved to Perth.

The Baron Cohens’ departure sees previous top-dog billionaires Frank Lowy and Harry Triguboff restored as the most powerful members of Central, and Camilla Freeman-Topper returned as the synagogue’s most admired glamour.
