There are more than 30 new names in the rankings of Sydney’s most powerful 100 people.

Some have forced their way in due to talent, while others have earned a spot by vanquishing a rival.

There are more criminals on this year’s list – and more cops.

The number of women is up, as is representation of Indigenous Australians.

“The Power 100 is a snapshot of a city that builds upon success,” said Daily Telegraph editor Ben English. “These are our people.”

Changes in government, both state and federal, have created many vacancies.

The top two in 2022 are gone – former Premier Dominic Perrottet and former Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

So too ex-NSW Treasurer Matt Kean, who was 15th is also out of the rankings, as is the previous Deputy PM, Barnaby Joyce, who was at number 18.

Liberal power couple Stuart Ayres and Marise Payne have gone from ninth to nothing.

Some of last year’s debutants have gone as quickly as they came. Among them are the founders of Iris Energy, brothers Dan and Will Roberts.

They joined the influence index after Iris, which mines bitcoin with renewables, listed on Nasdaq with a worth of more than $2 billion.

But the company has since shed more than 80 per cent of its market capitalisation.

They are not the only crypto luminaries to lose their lustre and their listing.

Others from the business world have been made redundant.

The bosses of both casinos have been ejected.

Wellness entrepreneurs and power couple Robert Bates and Emma Gibson are gone too, after the implosion of their empire.

Hillsong mega-church founder Brian Houston is out.

So too is former PM John Howard. There simply wasn’t room.

If that was one of the hardest decisions, one of the easiest was booting the man who once took on Mr Howard for the prime ministership, Mark Latham.
