Big Fat Greek Wedding in Sydney: $25m worth of cars at lavish nuptials

IT was billed as the wedding to rival Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer’s — and this big fat Greek wedding in Sydney didn’t disappoint, with a reported $25 million worth of cars on the day.

IT was billed as the wedding to rival Auburn deputy mayor Salim Mehajer’s — and this big fat Greek wedding in Sydney didn’t disappoint.

Just don’t ask how much it cost.

With $25-million worth of cars and bikes, an appearance from Johnathan Thurston, saxophonists and one nervous bride, it was a very strange wedding at Homebush yesterday.

In the showiest wedding since Mehajer’s extravaganza nine months ago, Greek Cypriot businessman Andrew Constantinou, 33, was marrying his 32-year-old sweetheart Rachel Carter.

Mr Constantinou’s first cousin, Kim Kardashian look-a-like Florentina Polyviou, said while it was a very extravagant wedding, it’s “very rude to ask how much it cost”.

But his aunty, name unknown, put it at well over $100,000.

“We are not like those other people,” Ms Polyviou, a fashion designer, said in reference Mehajer’s wedding last year.

“There was a lot of planning that went into this wedding. Weddings are expensive these days.”

A procession of gold-plated Harley-Davidsons, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Rolls Royces led the couple from the Pullman Hotel, off Olympic Boulevard, to the Waterview function centre in Bicentennial Park.

Johnathan Thurston was staying in the same hotel as the wedding and made a cameo appearance to see the cars.

The hotel happened to be the same place the North Queensland Cowboys were staying at before their clash tonight with the Penrith Panthers.

Johnathan Thurston made a cameo appearance outside the venue, mingling with the crowd and posing for selfies, but wouldn’t offer any comment on the event.

But while this wedding was not able to the match Mr Mehajer’s for cost, at least it was law-abiding.

Inspector Stuart Sweeney, from Flemington police, said organisers were very cooperative with police.

“They advised us of it well in advance and have done this whole thing by the book,” Insp Sweeney told The Sunday Telegraph.

“They are pretty nice bikes as well.”
