‘Better off dead’: schoolgirl speaks of Sydney ice addict’s vile rape

A Sydney ice junkie who kidnapped and raped a young escort and a schoolgirl during a sadistic crime spree has heard of the lifelong damage he inflicted on his youngest victim.

A Sydney schoolgirl who was abducted and repeatedly raped by an ice addict says following her “torture” she lives in constant fear that “everyone is out to hurt me.”

Mustafa Kayirici will soon be sentenced for subjecting the then-13-year-old to “a day of degrading and cruel behaviour” in 2016, much of which he filmed on his phone.

Just five days earlier, Kayirici had raped a 22-year-old escort at gunpoint before stealing $700 from her purse – heinous crimes for which he’s been jailed until at least 2046.

His teenage victim told Downing Centre District Court she sometimes feels she’d be “better off dead” than to endure the pain of remembering her horrific five-hour ordeal.

“You are the reason I live in panic, fear and humiliation,” the youngster wrote in a victim impact statement.

“You have torn up everything around me. You have taken away my innocence.”

Sporting face and neck tattoos and a long black beard as he appeared via video link from prison, Kayirici showed little emotion as the girl’s letter was read by a support person at his sentence hearing on Friday.

The 29-year-old has claimed the “dirty” videos on his phone proved the girl lied about her age and was never his prisoner but willingly had sex with him multiple times.

But a jury found him guilty of a string of offences including kidnapping and 12 counts of aggravated sexual assault.

The once bubbly student now suffers panic attacks when out in public and even shrinks away when her own parents reach out to touch her, the court heard.

The depressed teen had to move schools “due to the trauma of revisiting the site of torture” and says her family is broken by the attack, adding: “I will never be the same.”

“I suffer to get through every single day,” she said.

On June 24 the girl was headed for class when Kayirici lured her into his car at Parramatta and allegedly pulled out a knife before inflicting “vile” abuse while driving around the city’s western suburbs, Judge Jane Culver said.

“I went along with him because he threatened me and I felt it was the only way I could get home alive,” the victim said during the trial.

The next day the disqualified driver was hospitalised with facial injuries after crashing his car into a bus stop following a high-speed police chase in Bondi.

The man who has described himself as a “thug” had been living at home with his mother in South Penrith and was on bail for a number of other offences including assault and stalking.

Kayirici’s Legal Aid lawyer said he’s being locked in his cell for 23 hours a day at Lithgow jail where he’s also doing time for bashing guards.

In a 2018 sentencing report Kayirici, whose criminal history is so long he’s considered institutionalised, was labelled “extremely dangerous and hostile towards female staff.”

Defence barrister Jeffrey Clarke said his client’s segregation from other inmates makes his time behind bars harder and this should be factored in on sentencing.

“To be frank it’s one of the few mitigating points that I can realistically advance for Mr Kayirici,” he said.

“He shouldn’t get leniency for misbehaviour … he’s the master of his own making,” Judge Culver said.

Kayirici will learn his fate in June.
