BARNABY Joyce’s family and parents are appalled at his decision with new partner Vikki Campion to sell their story in a tell-all interview with Channel 7.
Mr Joyce’s parents are understood to be very close to his wife Natalie and have been supporting her amid the revelations he was having a baby with his former media adviser.
Sources inside the Joyce family camp said his parents and siblings still hope for a reconciliation with Natalie, and noted divorce proceedings have not begun.
The insider said the family believe Mr Joyce has not been himself for the past year and they want “the real Barnaby” to come back.
One family insider said his parents and siblings are upset by his decision to do last night’s Channel 7 interview and particularly furious at new partner Ms Campion’s claim in promo that, “You can’t help who you fall in love with.”
“Of course you can help not getting involved with a married man,” the insider said.
They questioned Ms Campion’s claim there was pressure on her to have an abortion.
“I don’t think anybody did know they were pregnant and Barny is so strongly anti-abortion. He would never consider it,” the source said.
The reported $150,000 payment also caused consternation for the Joyce family, particularly given the pressure, emotional and financial, on Natalie Joyce and their four daughters.
Mrs Joyce is a primary school teacher specialising in special needs and she also works with indigenous students with learning difficulties.
Formerly part-time, she is now working full-time to support her daughters financially.
It is understood two of Mr Joyce’s four daughters have done part-time work in the holidays at a chook farm, cleaning up after the chickens, to pay their own way.
A second close family friend said it was incredibly difficult for Mr Joyce’s daughters to watch their father on TV.
“The girls are disgusted by the television interview,” the friend said.
“The character of Natalie Joyce is unquestionable. She’s been dealt a very, unexpectedly bad hand with virtually no warning and, considering what’s happened, the girls are an absolute credit to themselves. They work hard and are trying to make the best of it all.”
Mrs Joyce has avoided any interviews, despite repeated requests from all media outlets.
