BANKSTOWN Hospital, still reeling over the death of a newborn, is investigating an incident in which a female patient died suddenly at their mental facility this week.

BANKSTOWN Hospital is investigating an incident in which a female patient died suddenly at their mental facility this week.

The deceased, believed to be of Middle Eastern background, was found in an isolation area at Banks House, located at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital, on Monday.

A woman from Bankstown - who would only be identified as Terri - who acts as the primary carer for her 39-year-old mentally disabled nephew, who was also a patient in the same facility, said that she met with the deceased woman while visiting and found her “really disturbed and distressed and delusional”.

The hospital has offered its deep and sincere condolences to the woman’s family, a spokeswoman said.

A spokeswoman for Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital said: “The hospital has offered its deep and sincere condolences to the family”.

“Staff are providing the family with ongoing support and assistance at this sad and difficult time,” she said.

“The hospital is conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the death.

“The case has been referred to the Coroner.”

Terri has made an official complaint against the mental health facility.

“I spoke to (three staff members) — they are all just backing up the hospital,” she said.

“Their story is there was nothing they could do. That’s their story.”

Her nephew has since been released from Banks House.

She said she was “shattered” this incident had occurred at the same hospital precinct where a newborn died after being given the wrong gas.

A second baby is still receiving treatment for the same reason.
