Protesters blocked the upgrade of a Telstra tower into 5G technology on Monday at Lennox Head.
The site blocked was the equipment at North Creek Road’s water tower.
Around dozen people blocked the entrance to the site by parking a car and locking arms.
The Northern Rivers for Safe Technology social media group received confirmation from Telstra last week that the site was about to be upgraded.
Telstra Regional General Manager for Northern New South Wales, Michael Marom, who visited the site on Monday, said the company will continue the technology rollout.
“We’re continuing to progress upgrades of new technology across the region, and Lennox Head Telstra customers will soon experience the full benefits of 5G, as well as improved 4G services,” he said.
“We want to thank the community for their patience as we proceed with this upgrade, and are pleased work has commenced on the tower without significant delays or disruption.”
Richmond Police District attended the site and allowed Telstra crews access to the site.
