Sahil Kumar Singh pleads guilty to drink driving with cocaine in his system at Ballina on New Year’s Day

A Mercedes Benz driver was busted over the legal alcohol limit with cocaine in his system and four passengers onboard in Ballina.

A Ballina man was busted drink driving with cocaine in his system and four passengers onboard in a shocking start to the year.

Sahil Kumar Singh faced Ballina Local Court on Thursday pleading guilty to mid-range drink driving and driving with the drug present in his body.

The 27-year-old was driving a Mercedes Benz when he was pulled over for a random breath test on Tamar St in Ballina about 1am on New Year’s Day, the court was told.

Singh, who was carrying four passengers, recorded a positive reading.

Singh was also subjected to a drug swab test, which came back positive for cocaine, court documents state.

Police state in the documents Singh appeared intoxicated because his actions were sluggish, he was slurring his words and his eyes were bloodshot.

Singh told police he had downed two shots of tequila and had not eaten.

He was arrested and taken to Ballina Police Station.

Singh returned a middle-range blood alcohol reading of 0.124 in a follow-up test.

The case was adjourned for sentencing on April 4.
