THE Badgerys Creek airport mega-development will land Western Sydney 10,000 more jobs over the next decade than originally forecast.

With the project already luring businesses to the area, an independent analysis conducted by Ernst & Young for the Department of Industry, obtained by The Daily Telegraph, estimates there will be 27,946 jobs at the airport and nearby business park by 2031, rising to 47,473 by 2041.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull will today unveil an ambitious “30-minute city” plan within Western Sydney to stop thousands having to endure hours-long daily commutes between where they live and where they work.

And the federal government will kickstart the jobs boom by moving the National Disability Insurance Scheme’s quality commission to the area — creating 150 new jobs.

“More than one in 10 children in Australia are growing up in Western Sydney — and this figure, more than any, demonstrates how important the region is to the future of Australia,” Mr Turnbull told The Daily Telegraph. “Our investments are stopping the exodus of residents who have to endure a minimum two-hour commute each day simply to get to and from work.

“All three levels of government are backing ambitious targets for skills and jobs, housing supply and the delivery of a 30-minute western city, capitalising on all the opportunities generated by the Coalition’s investment in the Western Sydney Airport.”

Businesses are already moving into the area, with Northrop Grumman to open a major new facility near the Western Sydney Airport. TNT opened a facility there in March 2015.

Mulberry Tree Cafe’s Victor Chan said he had decided to open his cafe in Western Sydney because he is sure the area will thrive.

“We are finding there are more new businesses opening here. There are more people like us but also bigger companies targeting this area and opening franchises which is really lifting competition,” said Mr Chan, whose cafe is in Parramatta.

“If Parramatta is the future centre of Sydney, a lot of that will depend on infrastructure and more services.

“We are hoping that will happen, that’s why we made the investment out here, we are counting on it. It would make more sense for people in the west to work closer to where they live.”

The Ernst & Young report found 11,346 jobs would be created during the construction of Western Sydney Airport. But the analysis also warned there were already “high vacancy rates for certain professions”, making it harder to find local workers for the construction and operation of the airport.
