Clad in a Santa suit, hat and fake whitebeard, the man was captured on film walking into the carpark of a Zetland apartment complex in Sydney’s inner east just before midnight on December 8.

The Bad Santa on CCTV that police believe can help them with their investigation.

The Mercedes was stolen from a unit complex near Redfern on December 8.

A few minutes later he was driving the bright green 2009 Mercedes C63 sedan out of the carpark of the Defries Ave building.

Police began trawling through the CCTV after a 32-year-old woman said she had parked her car in the underground carpark at about 3pm on the Saturday afternoon and then found it had vanished when she went to drive it about 1pm the next day.

It is still missing.

“As part of our investigation, we are calling on the community and, in particular, the man in the vision to come forward and assist us,” Redfern Police Area Commander, Superintendent Andrew Holland said.

The 2009 Mercedes C63 sedan is driven out of the carpark on Defries Ave, Zetland.

The Mercedes, with NSW number plates CLB29V, was parked underground in Zetland.

Santa is described as being of Mediterranean/Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his 30s, and of medium build.

Police have released the footage hoping someone might be able to help identify the thief or know the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle, which is still missing.
