The girlfriend of a teenager fatally stabbed at this year’s Easter Show has given birth to their son, naming him after the father he will never meet.
Baby Uati, named after his father Uati Faletolu, was born last week, bringing much needed joy to his family and heartbroken partner Taylor Piliae.
Seventeen-year-old Uati Faletolu died almost instantly after being knifed at the show about 8pm on April 11.
Relatives told The Daily Telegraph both the mother and baby are doing well, while photos posted on Instagram show the newborn being held by loved ones.
“Welcome to the world bubba my heart’s so full, I love you so much,” his aunt Bree Piliae posted.
Uati was on a break from his part-time job working on the Break Dance ride at the show when he was killed.
Paramedics tried desperately to save his life as horrified parents and children watched on, with videos of the bloody incident and aftermath quickly spreading to social media.
In the aftermath of Uati’s death, his partner Miss Piliae paid an emotional tribute to her boyfriend and asked him to “watch down” on their son.
“Missing you so much Uati, so heartbroken. You are not here but I know God’s gotchu now and that you are in a better place and that you are happy,” she wrote.
“Please watch down on our future son. We love you.”
NSW Police have so far arrested three people over the fatal stabbing of Uati and another teenager, during a wild brawl in the carnival ride section of the show.
Two 18-year-olds and a 14-year-old boy were arrested in July following a Homicide Squad investigation by Strike Force Calle.
Both the men and the teenager were charged with murder.
All three individuals remain before the courts.
