The average Australia now earns a six figure salary — taking home $103,000 — according to new government data ahead of the silly season.
The Albanese government took credit for the salaries, an increase of more than $8000 since the government came to power in 2022, saying the higher wages will help Australians with festive season expenses.
As revealed by the Telegraph, Australians have not let the cost of living slow them down with the upcoming Black Friday period beating the lead up to Christmas as the busiest retail period of the year.
Australians are expected to spend a collective $6.7bn in Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales this month.
Employment Minister Murray Watt said his governments policies were putting more money back in people’s pockets.
“Our policies have never been so important for Australian workers, who are understandably concerned about added costs this Christmas,” Mr Watt said.
“It’s a great result that because of the Albanese Government’s strong action, minimum wage workers are pocketing an extra $7,400 a year and award workers over $10,000.
“The Albanese Government is working to ensure workers are paid more, so they can deal with cost of living pressures, while also introducing policies that make it easier for families to re-join the workforce, like Cheaper Child Care, Parent Pathways and Free TAFE.”
