Parts of the regional town of Mullumbimby are in lockdown after police confirmed they had found “what appears to be an improvised explosive device”.
Police found a suspicious device in an alley on Thursday morning.
Known as “the biggest little town” in Australia, a number of streets across the usually quiet town are shut down as reports of a bomb threat rock the quiet coastal town on the northern coast of New South Wales.

People are being urged to stay away from Mullumbimby today.
Authorities sent a bomb deployment robot from Sydney and the streets of the town are surrounded by police and other emergency services.
Bomb disposal experts are currently undertaking investigations after reports of an unexploded bomb.
Richmond Police District Inspector Darren Cloak told The Northern Starpolice had not received a phone call, and there was no note with the device, so police did not yet know who was responsible for it.
