An AR-15 assault rifle, two pistols, and a large quantity of ammunition, cash and drugs have been seized and a man charged after a crackdown on illegal weapons in south west Sydney.
NSW Police and the Australian Federal Police, as part of the National Anti-Gangs Squad, carried out searches on four properties in Guildford, Yennora, Old Guildford and Yagoona on Wednesday.
The raids were part of a joint investigation into possession and supply of illegal firearms in Sydney.
Investigators allege they found an Ar-15 semi automatic assault rifle and two automatic pistols at the Old Guildford home, along with a silencer, knuckle dusters, a large quantity of ammunition and cannabis.
About $110,000 in cash and 500gm of an unidentified white powder were also allegedly seized at the Yagoona property.
A 27-year-old man was arrested at the Old Guildford home before being taken to Fairfield Police Station where he was charged with 14 offences including five accounts of acquiring a prohibited firearm, three counts of possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm and three counts of not keeping a firearm safely.
He was refused bail at Fairfield Local Court on September 30 and will reappear in the same court on October 28.
Inquiries are continuing and more arrests are expected.
