Australian shopping mall modelling competitions have launched the careers of some of the world’s best-known models, now a northern beaches swimwear company is trying to discover our next big name.

Miranda Kerr, Jessica Hart, Catherine McNeil and Abbey Lee Kershaw are just some of the global success stories discovered through modelling competitions.

Now cult swimwear brand Ark is attempting to find the newest Australian face and body, asking all budding models to make their way to LABEL in Brookvale on Sydney’s northern beaches next Saturday.

With long-running competitions such as the Girlfriend Modelling Competition on hiatus, Ark founder and owner Renee Kirby is holding the competition in a bid to launch the career of yet another Australian beauty.

“These types of competitions give us the opportunity to view talent we wouldn’t otherwise be able to tap into,” Ms Kirby said.

“Our customers really are our best ambassadors. Aspiring models gain the opportunity to experience a professional casting call. It’s great for their confidence in addition to networking and getting a foot in the industry.”

“We would love to find women in the full range of sizes we specialise in, from 6 to 14, to better represent our customers and hopefully make purchasing a swimsuit online easier.

“We are looking for 10 girls/women who represent the people we see down at our local, Manly Beach.”

Chic model Natalie Roser is the perfect example of what a launch-pad model search competition can be.

She entered Girlfriend Magazine Model Search in 2003 and has since become one of Australia’s biggest success stories, having worked for the likes of Guess.

“I believe that competitions like the Ark model search allow young women a chance to step out of their comfort zone,” Roser said.

“It provides an exciting and safe way to be introduced to the industry.

“I was scouted by Chic Management when I was 13 at a similar modelling competition. It was an amazing experience that helped create my career. Having the support of a professional and personable agency like Chic really helped me fall in love with the industry and grow my confidence.”
