Anzac Day 2022: Sydney dawn services, marches and two-up guide

It’s a day of remembrance for the fallen, honouring those who march and celebration of the Anzac spirit. Here’s your complete guide to commemorating Anzac Day in Sydney this year.

New South Wales lifts crowd limits for Anzac Day

Anzac Day commemorations to remember our fallen soldiers will proceed as normal in NSW this year.

Eased Covid-19 restrictions will see a return to pre-pandemic ceremonies at large, with the only governmental advice remaining being to mask up indoors and in tight spaces.

Community and club-run dawn services will be going ahead on the Monday public holiday along with traditional street marches and several games of two-up in pubs.

NSW Minister for Transport and Veterans David Elliot said Anzac Day this year would be a particularly moving day for many veterans who were unable to attend ceremonies and marches over the last three years due to the pandemic.

“This year not only marks the first year since the Australia Defence Force’s withdrawal from Afghanistan, but it is also the first time since 2019 that veterans will be able to reconnect with mates to attend their annual reunions free of restrictions,” Mr Elliot said.

Public transport will be free for all veterans, families and individuals attending Anzac Day events across Sydney, Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Hunter and Illawarra regions next Monday.

Here is a list of places where you can pay respect to our Anzacs in Sydney this year.
