TRAFFIC heading west on Sydney’s Anzac Bridge is at a standstill after a nine-vehicle accident, with authorities warning of “heavy delays”.

All three lanes heading towards Victoria Road have reopened after the crash involving eight cars and a truck but traffic is still heavy.

The “nose to tail” crash happened just before 1pm, police said.

A “big contingent” of officers are now out directing traffic in an effort to get things moving again.

NSW Ambulance said five of its crew were at the scene now and were dealing with three patients who all suffered minor injuries.

One person was being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital.

Sydney Live Traffic said the mutli-vehicle crash occurred near “The Crescent” and encouraged drivers to “allow plenty of time to travel through the area”.

“Traffic is heavy heading back towards Darling Harbour with traffic backing up approximately 2.5kms,” a spokeswoman for Sydney Live Traffic said.

Emergency services have already removed most of the vehicles involved in the crash from the scene.
