Chilling GoPro footage has emerged of a teen charged with terror offences armed with knives and tactical equipment before allegedly walking into a Labor MP’s office.

Jordan Patten, 19, from Raymond Terrace, was arrested after midday Wednesday and charged under the terrorism act.

A live video understood to be taken by the teen around the time of the alleged offending, shows him appearing to get prepared in a public bathroom.

He is wearing a helmet with a GoPro style video recorder mounted on it, as well as a face mask.

The teenager charged with terror offences after allegedly arming himself with knives and filming himself is accused of attempting to murder Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp.

In reading out the allegation against Patten and after reading the facts, magistrate Anthony Spence suggested there were “strong overtones” of mental health issues.

Patten sat calmly in a black t-shirt as he listened to his brief court appearance via audio-visual link.

Mr Spence said the charge included him entering the Newcastle office of Mr Crakanthorp on Wednesday with intent to kill him due to his position in the Labor Party.

Legal Aid solicitor Martin Vazquez told the court that Patten would not be making any release application.

No pleas have been required to be entered. Mr Spence formally remanded Patton in custody.

He will reappear in court on August 21.

Members of the teenager’s family expressed their “sincere apology” to members of the community who witnessed the incident.

Patten’s father said his family didn’t have anything more to say and didn’t wish to provide a public statement.

He said the family had been approached by many news outlets but the incident was “all over social media”, with people commenting from as far away as the UK.

Neighbours said they kept to themselves and didn’t know Patten.

Patten’s older brother and an aunt spoke to media briefly on Thursday outside his house at Raymond Terrace, where they expressed their shock at his alleged actions.

“I just want to express our sincere apology to members of the community who were there and witnessed it,” Patten’s brother said.

He said family members had been in contact with Patten since his arrest and he was otherwise OK.

“We just hope he can get the help he needs,” Patten’s brother said.

His aunt said Patten was autistic.

Police allege that on Wednesday Patten commenced livestreaming his preparation through the video website Twitch.

He also donned a ballistics vest which has a knife and a saw wedged in the pockets.

The seven-minute live video shows him walking around inner-city Newcastle - including briefly into Mr Crakanthorp’s office - before he walks into a museum on Workshop Way.

The video, taken from the alleged offender’s point-of-view from his helmet mounted cam, shows a family with a small child quickly get out of his way, as staff at the museum stand their ground.

“You can’t walk around like that,” one staff member says.

“You need to leave (because you’re) dressed like that sir.

“Get outside for us please.”

The man leaves the museum where he films a large kitchen-style knife in his possession, before the live stream ends.

Another image, taken before the video, shows the ballistics vest, knife, hammer and a saw laid out on a bed.

Police will allege that while the man was making his way towards Newcastle from his home, he distributed a 205-page manifesto to various politicians which included anti-Semitic ravings.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the man’s mother told police that he had become very interested in watching Nazi videos on Youtube in the past few months.
