John Singleton and Prime Minister Scott Morrison may never see eye-to-eye on politics or religion — and now Hawaii can be added to the long list of topics that divide the two men.
Newly returned from Oahu, where he last year splurged on renovations to his new $9.3 million beachfront “peaceful haven”, Singleton has been regaling friends with tales of his disaffection for the tropical island.
Although he once shared with this columnist plans to retire to Hawaii after building a retreat for himself, his various female companions (decorator Michelle Leslie, new carer Kim Dennis, his children, etc, etc) and his two Rhodesian ridgeback dogs, “Singo” seems to have had a change of heart after spending three months at the property.
The larrikin businessman apparently found the location not entirely to his taste, and not a patch on the luxurious compound he owns at Mount White, north of Sydney.
He last week told this writer he’d been “forced” to endure a minimum three-month visit due to the terms of his visa.
Singo’s now talking about selling the 1300sqm property, which fronts Lanikai Beach in a gated estate and is just two doors from a summer retreat once used by US President Barack Obama and his family.
Just a short drive from Pearl Harbor and the international airport based at Honolulu, Singo previously said the house “won’t be there in 10 or 20 years’ time, but that won’t worry me — the sea will take the house one day — but I’ll be beyond caring.
“The location is beautiful.”
