A 4WD stolen from a home in southwest Sydney was potentially used as a getaway car days later in the execution of crime figure Amar Kettule.

Detectives are now trying to track the dark-coloured Jeep Cherokee’s last route after CCTV captured the car near William St, Fairfield about the same time Kettule was shot dead on January 10.

The car was torched later that day in Smithfield.

“We believe the vehicle may be linked to the shooting and obviously to the murder,” NSW Homicide Squad Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said.

“We are trying to get a timeline of where the vehicle might have been sighted before, on January 10 or after the shooting.

“It is very important we get that timeline. Every bit of information can help us and it may help us link who may have been in the vehicle.”

Kettule, 38, was sitting in his car outside his Fairfield apartment block about 2.40am on January 10 when he was shot at multiple times.

Kettule, who had historical ties to the Assyrian street gang The True Kings, died at the scene.

The True Kings has been a long time rival of DLASTHR (The Last Hour), another street gang that has been active in the Greater Fairfield area since the early 2000s.

Supt Doherty said detectives were looking at possible links between Mr Kettule’s murder and conflicts with crime groups.

“His involvement in any criminal activities is a line of inquiry, looking at associates and people who wanted to have contact with him and harm him,” he said.

Multiple people would have also been involved in planning and orchestrating the underworld hit.

“This is obviously a well-planned murder. The victim was taken by surprise and virtually assassinated in his vehicle,” Supt Doherty said.

“I think the community has had enough of shootings and enough of the violence.

“People don’t want to keep waking up and seeing blood that stains the streets from young men that have lost their lives as a result of a shooting or a murder.”

Police also confirmed ballistic testing was underway to determine whether the firearm used in Mr Kettule’s murder was also used in other shootings.

Weeks before Kettule’s murder, DLASTHR founding member Samer Marcus was almost executed in Campbelltown.

Marcus has been left with severe injuries and is unable to communicate without hand signals after being shot in the head.

In June last year, he survived a separate shooting in Bonnyrigg Heights.

Anyone with information about any of the shootings is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
