Alo-Bridget Namoa: Struggling mother’s pain over teen’s terror arrest
THE mother of a Sydney teen who allegedly wanted to carry out an attack in Sydney says she is struggling to cope with her daughter’s arrest.
THE mother of a Sydney teen who allegedly wanted to perform “an Islamic Bonnie and Clyde” attack in Sydney says she is struggling to cope with her daughter’s arrest.
Alo-Bridget Namoa, 18, was refused bail on Saturday and is facing 31 charges of refusing to answer questions during a Crime Commission hearing about her alleged support of Islamic State and suspected plans to commit terrorist acts with husband Sameh Bayda.
Bayda, also 18, has been charged with three counts of collecting documents likely to facilitate terrorist acts and is on remand in Goulburn Supermax.
Namoa’s mother yesterday told The Daily Telegraph the family was “very distressed” and “having a hard time”.
Namoa, who is of Tongan decent, married Bayda in a traditional Islamic ceremony in December last year after converting from Christianity.
Police allege they found photos on her phone of beheadings as well as a knife wrapped in a flag in her handbag.
Namoa will appear in Central Local Court on Thursday, while Bayda is due in the same court on March 30.
