Bondi Beach swimmers were treated to an experience of a lifetime on Monday morning, with two humpback whales cruising among them.
Overhead drone footage shared to Instagram from @sharkdroneapp shows three swimmers at Bondi Beach, on Sydney’s east coast, paddling alongside three humpback whales.
The whales were spotted about 6.50am, just before sunrise, and continued travelling calmly alongside the swimmers.
Drone Shark App videographer Jason Iggledon said it was a “crazy” sight to witness.
“The whales actually followed the swimmers, not the swimmers following the whales, the whale wanted to swim with the swimmer.”
“It reached out with it’s flipper,” he said.
Swimmer Jim Finn took to Instagram to discuss the experience, saying via his story that he “almost high-fived a humpback whale today”.
The swimmer also commented on the Shark Drone App post saying: “We were having a leisurely bay swim and suddenly they just turned up beside us.”
“What an incredible moment!
“So stoked you captured it.”
“Just a leisurely swim alongside another salty mate,” he said.
