The man accused of a vile attack on a seven-year-old girl in a dance hall toilet while he was on parole for sexual assault should never have been released from prison, the woman he attacked said.
The Daily Telegraph can also reveal Anthony Sampieri, 54, was initially denied parole when he became eligible in 2016 because he had not completed a required sex offender rehabilitation course.
But Sampieri was paroled in September last year after he had “demonstrated satisfactory prison performance” during his five years behind bars, the State Parole Authority said yesterday.
Last Thursday, Sampieri was allegedly found naked and sexually assaulting the girl in a bathroom of a Kogarah dance school. He allegedly stabbed a man who tried to stop him, before a second bystander punched him into submission. Sampieri has not been charged over the attack.
Sampieri was on parole after being jailed for seven years with a four-year non-parole period for the sexual assault of a 60-year-old woman at knifepoint at his home in Wollongong in 2012.
The woman told The Daily Telegraph yesterday that if Sampieri was found guilty of the attack on the girl he should never be allowed back on the streets.
“I hope they lock him away for good” if he is found guilty, said the woman, who did not want to be identified. “No little girl should have to go through that.”

Speaking from her home in the Illawarra, the woman said she had been terrified but not surprised when she was informed by letter he was being released on parole.
“I was told … he’d been refused parole once because he wouldn’t toe the line.”
Mr Elliott said the government had improved management of parolees to protect the community since 2017.
“I will continue to have discussions with my colleagues about ways of improving the parole system.”
Premier Gladys Berejiklian promised the government would not leave a “single stone unturned” to find out why Sampieri was on parole.
“That is a shocking set of circumstances,” she said.
Opposition leader Michael Daley demanded a statewide review of the parole system.
“I hope to God that this wasn’t as a result of under investment.
“But the Premier has some explaining to do to that little girl’s family and everybody else now who’s worried about this happening to them,” he said.
It is also understood an application could be made to have Sampieri declared a High Risk Offender.
