The incredible story of Alex McKinnon continues with the former NRL star and his wife Teigan announcing the shock news they’re expecting identical twins.
Almost seven years after he suffered a devastating spinal injury that left him a quadriplegic, McKinnon said the couple were “blown away” by the news.
“We’re extremely grateful — with a million different emotions,’’ McKinnon told The Sunday Telegraph.
“Harriet (2) will have two little babies to play with now — she will be the best big sister.
“We’ve known for five weeks now, but felt today was the right time to share our exciting news.
“The house is going to be full, that’s for sure.’’
With Teigan 13 weeks pregnant, McKinnon, 28, said the twins are due in May next year, while adding a key piece of experience that will assist the couple to adjust to life with two new little ones.
“Teigan was a twin — not identical — but she and her brother (Louis) are twins, so we know that we have at least two grandparents, who are experienced in this area,’’ McKinnon said.
He added that he and Teigan were speechless when their GP broke the news following a recent scan.
“I had the biggest smile … and I just couldn’t stop shaking my head in disbelief,’’ McKinnon said.
“I’m still trying to get my head around all that stuff like two baby seats, two cots, two high chairs … it’s amazing how the rollercoaster of life works.
“I’m an only child and so we always wanted a big family — I guess we’ve got our wish, that’s for sure.”
