Aldi, Timezone to open at Westfield Parramatta in 2022

Customers are in for a treat with the centre revealing its plans which include the arrival of a popular discount supermarket, and a major amusement arcade.

Strange reason for massive crowds at Westfield

Westfield Parramatta’s level five is set to get a $33 million overhaul when Aldi moves into the fresh food section while Timezone will also open on the floor below.

Scentre Group, which manages Westfield, has revealed plans for the upgraded 7000sq m fresh food experience that will see popular discount supermarket Aldi move in late this year alongside a revamped Coles, which will become a full-line supermarket.

More specialty retail partners, yet to be announced, are planned for the hub which will be fitted out with exposed concrete, greenery, terrazzo flooring and black steel to provide a “modern atmosphere” for the space.

Coles will expand and Aldi will be its next-door neighbour.

Scentre Group regional centre experience manager Danii Ashton said Parramatta Westfield attracted more than 18 million customers each year.

“The introduction of Aldi and a full-line Coles as part of this project supports our vision to create a convenient destination that meets the evolving needs of our local community,’’ she said.

“We look forward to keeping our customers updated and announcing further retail partners as this project progresses.”

Aldi shut at George St in Parramatta’s CBD in 2020 when IGA Romeo’s replaced it. However, the crippling impacts of Covid struck and it shut in 2021.

Business Western Sydney executive director David Borger has suggested prospective tenants, including De Costi Seafood and Harris Farm fruit retailers, to lure more food shoppers into the revamped Westfield food hub.

“It has been such a long absence for us of one of their stores,’’’ he said.

“It’s a shame considering Harris Farm opened their first store in western Sydney back in 1971 and the closest we have sees us travelling all the way to Pennant Hills.”

Mr Borger has spoken for several shoppers when he welcomed Parramatta soon to have its own special buys aisle at Aldi.

“It’s a great relief that we’ll no longer need to do the special buys sprint at one of Aldi’s other locations before heading back over to Westfield to head to the other major and specialty shops in the centre,’’ he said.

“I love Aldi, you go in to grab some groceries and walk out with a ski jacket and a bench saw. I cannot wait for the brand new Aldi, a cutting-edge Coles and Timezone for the kids, and big kids,’’ to open up at Westfield Parramatta.’’

Along with the recent additions, Mr Borger is keen for an Apple store.

Before the food shopping gets under way, it’s time to collect those arcade game tokens when Timezone amusement centre and Zone Bowling opens in mid winter.

The 1750sq m site with a capacity for 400 patrons will house four bowling alleys, bumper cars, a laser tag arena and a function area to host birthday parties.

It will occupy the premises formerly occupied by Sky Phoenix Chinese restaurant, which was forced to shut at the beginning of the pandemic in 2020.
