The brother of slain Islamic State terrorist Mohamed Elomar has been arrested for possessing a slingshot.

Ahmed Elomar, who was jailed for nearly three years for punching a police officer during the 2012 Hyde Park riots, was placed an Extended Supervision Order in August this year.

Police say Elomar, who was placed on an ESO for two years with 54 conditions, was arrested by counter terrorism police at his family’s sprawling Denham Court property on Wednesday.

He was charged with two counts of breaching the ESO, one for possessing a weapon — a slingshot and ball bearings — and another for associating with someone he was not allowed to. He was also charged with breaching a Weapons Prohibition Order.

News of his arrest comes as bizarre footage emerged of the former boxer riding a horse through the streets of Cronulla Beach earlier this month. He was filmed riding the horse a week before the anniversary of the 2005 Cronulla riots.

Elomar was released from jail for the Hyde Park riot attack in August 2016.

He was then jailed in February this year for stalking and intimidation over a confrontation with a spectator at a children’s soccer match in May 2017. At the time of the match Elomar was wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet as he was on parole.

He was sentenced to seven moths jail but his conviction was overturned on appeal in June this year.

In August Attorney-General Mark Speakman said authorities would monitor Elomar’s every movement over the next two years and he is subject to “54 very stringent conditions (including) electronic monitoring, restrictions on his use of computers … where he can live, who he can associate with, where he can travel”.

“We make no apologies for seeking these sorts of orders where somebody poses an unacceptable risk of terrorist activity in NSW,” Mr Speakman said. “Community safety will always be our top priority.”

Elomar was refused bail by police to appear in Liverpool Local Court tomorrow.
