Due to their gentle nature, these retired racers make excellent companions for the whole family. And you can catch them at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.

They say every dog has its day, and a loveable greyhound would like nothing more than to make yours better.
That’s why a number of volunteers and a few adorable greyhounds will visit the Show to talk to the public about adopting a greyhound.
“They’re the perfect companion animal,” said Dr Alicia Fuller, General Manager of Greyhounds As Pets (GAPNSW).
She urged showgoers to open their homes to a four-legged family member because April is Adopt A Greyhound Month.
“They are calm, quiet, affectionate and always happy to laze around and hang out with you as well as get you out into the fresh air for a stroll,” she said.
Dr Fuller said that their engaging nature was something new owners would enjoy.
“Greyhounds won’t jump all over you like some of the more boisterous breeds,” she said.
“They can’t get enough of loving pats and the chance to lean against you. They love the contact with us.”
Veterinarian and GAPNSW volunteer Karmen Fong adopted two greyhounds called Millie and Diesel through the Greyhounds As Pets NSW program.
“They’re relaxed, friendly pets and they can live happily in all kinds of homes,” she said.
“My partner Matthew and I got married in October just as restrictions were lifting. My dogs walked down the isle with my mum before my bridesmaids.”
Millie and Diesel also serve as therapy dogs at the Royal North Shore Hospital.
“They are such a beautiful breed and often misunderstood dogs,” Ms Fong said.
If you’re thinking about adopting a greyhound, the Greyhounds As Pets NSW team will be available to answer any questions in the Pet Pavilion every day of the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
