A popular Acai bowl store in Sydney’s west has been destroyed after being the target of a suspected firebombing, with its owners denying “Acai wars” are unfolding on the city’s streets.

Acai World’s food truck on Railway Tce in Merrylands was set alight in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, February 9, sparking a NSW Police investigation into the “targeted” arson attack.

In a TikTok video from in front of their destroyed shop, Acai World’s management revealed CCTV had captured two men running up and setting their food truck and adjoining undercover area alight.

“This was a targeted attack to burn down a business that was doing well,” Ray Amer said, in the video viewed one million times.

“We’ve seen the camera footage, there were two people that set the shop on fire, we don’t know who did it.

“This whole idea of other businesses in Acai being in competition with each other and that there’s tension, there’s no tension.

“We’re all aiming for the same thing and that’s to bring Acai to the community, and there are no such thing as Acai wars.”

A GoFundMe has been set up to raise funds to get the Acai World stores back on their feet, while other well known businesses — like Acai Underworld — have thrown their support behind them.

In a statement, NSW Police said officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command had begun investigating the fire.

“Officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command arrived to find a food truck alight.

“Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze; however, the truck was destroyed. No injuries were reported.
