The ABC’s top TV and radio talent are moving to western Sydney, with the first bulletin to be broadcast this weekend.
TV hosts Jeremy Fernandez and Nakari Thorpe will anchor the 7pm NSW TV bulletin for the first time from ‘Studio 91’ on Sunday night.
Meanwhile, it can be revealed radio executives are now planning for presenter Craig Reucassel and his producers to move their ABC Sydney breakfast show to the new multi-million dollar studios located at Parramatta Square.
Reucassel’s first breakfast show is expected to be broadcast from the new studio at the start of the new year.
“The development of ABC Parramatta has provided a rare opportunity to build a new centre for innovation and collaboration, designed and equipped to empower the ABC to strengthen its core purpose and expand its dedicated presence in Australian society generally and in Western Sydney specifically”, ABC Chairman Kim Williams said at the time of the Parramatta office’s launch.
Since then, outgoing presenter Sarah Macdonald, retired presenter Richard Glover, axed weekend personality Simon Marnie, Tim Webster and Dom Knight have all broadcast most of their radio shows from Parramatta.
The ground floor TV and radio studios are located at the plaza level and the audience can watch presenters broadcast their shows through the sound proof window.
“ABC Parramatta locates our NSW newsroom within one of Australia’s largest, fastest growing and most diverse communities,” ABC news director Justin Stevens said.
“The NSW 7PM team has joined colleagues from the NSW newsroom, ABC Radio Sydney and Product & Technology at the ABC Parramatta office. The start of the 7PM bulletin follows the recent launch of ABC Radio Sydney’s Mornings, Afternoons, Drive and Weekends programs from the Parramatta radio studios.”
Technicians were seen in the TV studio this week preparing for Sunday night’s TV broadcast.
