A man has been shot dead by police after he stabbed two people in domestic violence related incident at Nowra.
Police were called to a unit on Albert Street just before 12.30pm on Saturday, following reports of a stabbing.
Officers arrived at the unit block to find a woman had been stabbed to her neck, while a man also had injuries consistent with stab wounds.
Police sources said the man responsible for the stabbings then came toward officers with a knife.
“Officers responded to a call that a man was stabbing people and when they arrived it looks like the man came at them with a knife and one shot him,” a source said.
In a statement, police said the man threatened police, before an officer shot at him.
Paramedics were called to the scene but the man could not be revived.
A crime scene was established, and the knife believed to have been used in the stabbings was seized by officers from the Homicide Squad.
The injured woman was flown to St George Hospital in a serious condition, while the stabbed man was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital for treatment.
A critical incident was declared following the man’s death and officers are investigating.
